DISCOVER THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO NATURAL DIAMONDS
From ethical diamond sourcing and GIA certification to the four ``C``s, collections and expert opinions.
Responsible sourcing
DITANI adheres to the Code of Good Practice and the Kimberley Process, which covers ethical supply chain management, environmental responsibility, human and labor rights, and conflict-free mining of diamonds and gemstones. This reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible practices, including the ethical sourcing of our natural diamonds and colored gemstones. We work with natural colorless diamonds ranging from Flawless to SI1 clarity and from D to H on the color scale. We are committed to ethically sourced natural stones of the highest quality and do not offer lab-created alternatives. All diamonds over 0.30 carats are graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the International Gemological Institute (IGI).
Every diamond tells its own story, defined by subtle variations in cut, color, clarity and carat weight. Known as the “Four Cs,” these globally recognized standards offer a deeper understanding of a diamond’s quality and beauty.
Abrasion
Abrasion and shape are fundamental to how we interpret a diamond’s character. Cut determines how a stone interacts with light, from its brilliance and fire to the subtle glints of movement. At DITANI, we look for diamonds that are precisely faceted and carefully proportioned, preferring those with GIA cut grades of “Excellent” to “Very Good”. Our collections primarily feature diamonds with an “Excellent” cut, which guarantees the diamond’s unique and inimitable brilliance.
Color
Diamond color is graded on a scale from D to Z, with D representing the most colorless and rarest diamond. The closer a diamond is to colorless, the more extraordinary its beauty and value. At DITANI, we only select natural diamonds with a grade between D and H. They range from colorless to near colorless and are selected for their exquisite appearance and radiant clarity.
Cleanliness
Formed under immense pressure deep within the earth over millions of years, natural diamonds often bear small internal features known as inclusions. These markings are a natural part of the diamond’s origin and individuality. Clarity refers to the number, size and placement of these inclusions, with fewer and less visible markings indicating greater rarity and purity. GIA rates clarity on a scale from FL (flawless) to I3 (most included). At DITANI, we select diamonds ranging from FL (flawless) to SI1 (slightly included), with the majority of our diamonds falling between VVS (very, very slightly included) and VS (very slightly included). Each diamond weighing over 0.30 carats is personally selected by brand owner Nikola Ivanov to ensure that the selected diamonds do not contain even the slightest inclusions that are visible to the naked eye.
Carat
Carat refers to the weight of a diamond, affecting its scale and presence. While larger diamonds are rarer and often more sought after, weight alone does not determine the true value of a diamond. The relationship between carat, cut, color and clarity is what reveals the overall beauty of a stone. At DITANI, we consider carat along with the other three “Cs”: cut, color and clarity. This ensures that each diamond is selected for its overall beauty, balance and brilliance. We proudly supply diamonds regardless of their carat weight, always within our strict standards of quality and craftsmanship.
ADDITIONAL QUALITIES
After the Four Cs, there are two less well-known heroes of glamour
Symmetry and polish
When assessing the quality of a diamond, most people focus on the “Four Cs” – Carat, Color, Cut and Clarity. But within the cut category lie two critical sub-factors that often go unnoticed: symmetry and polish. These are not just technical boxes on a grading report; they directly affect how light behaves within the stone, determining its fire (color flashes), scintillation (shine when moving), and overall brilliance (light return). A diamond with perfect proportions but poor symmetry or polish will appear dull, like a high-performance engine with misaligned parts. At DITANI, we only work with diamonds with symmetry and polish ratings from “Excellent” to “Very Good,” with the majority of our diamonds rated “Excellent.”
